While visiting Rome, Italy you can’t miss the most outstanding building inside the Vatican City – The Basilica di San Pietro or Saint Peter's Basilica.

The interior of this famous Italian Basilica is as impressive as its rich facade. It has valuable masterpieces and monuments like the statue called La Pieta by the great Michelangelo. This fabulous work of art is placed behind a protective screen since in 1972 someone tried to destroy it with a hammer.

Saint Peter’s Basilica has several rich chapels – like the Chapel of the Immaculate Virgin Mary and the Chapel of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin. Saints also have a major place in the Italian church – there are 39 statues of saints who founded religious orders and amazing statues of Saint Helena and Saint Andrew by Francois Duquesnoy (1597 – 1643, a prominent Baroque sculptor in Rome born in Brussels).
